Choose a capital-region base using actual destinations, service needs and contractual terms.
Start by naming the correct field
SAC is Sacramento Executive, MHR is Mather and MCC is Sacramento McClellan. McClellan-Palomar in Carlsbad is a different airport. Sacramento County describes Executive as general-aviation focused and Mather as cargo focused, while McClellan describes itself as privately held and public use. Those identities frame questions but do not determine which airport is best for an owner's aircraft.
Compare the same Sacramento month
Use recurring home, office and meeting destinations, intended departure windows, crew reporting and maintenance support. Request an aircraft-specific operational review and actual storage offer for each candidate. A cargo-airport label is not proof of poor private service, and a business-park amenity is not automatically included in every lease. Confirm the exact passenger entrance and service package.
Keep economics and legal terms visible
Request fixed and variable charges, access, insurance, towing, fuel commitments, renewal and assignment conditions. Keep financing, annual hours and reserves unchanged across the three airport scenarios. Model any temporary storage or positioning costs separately. Discuss actual aircraft-location records with Sacramento County or the appropriate adviser; airport ownership structure does not by itself change California tax obligations.
Your next-step checklist
- Use SAC/MHR/MCC on every quote.
- Identify the contractual counterparty.
- Read renewal and assignment rights.
- Hold aircraft assumptions constant across comparisons.
