The people behind the base

FBOs & aviation businesses

Start with the providers’ published locations and the airport’s business directory. Compare written proposals for the exact aircraft and services you need.

The directory is informational. Categories describe published services; no ranking, service guarantee, FAA certificate determination or endorsement is implied. Ask each provider about current capability, availability and contract terms.

The decision in focus

Evaluate Sacramento Executive Airport as a home base or recurring destination for the actual aircraft, passengers and schedule.

Choose the correct Sacramento airport

The county airport system distinguishes Executive's general-aviation focus from Mather's cargo role and Sacramento International's airline role. Sacramento McClellan is a separate airport and should not be confused with the county system's names. Include SAC/KSAC in quotes and acquisition records so the proposed base, passenger entrance and delivery logistics are unambiguous.

Compare a capital-region month

Use representative trips to the owner's office, home, meetings and recurring regional destinations. Compare Executive, Mather and McClellan with the same passenger schedule and maintenance requirements. Consider crew reporting and empty positioning alongside ground access. A closer meeting location is useful only when it works with the exact aircraft and a documented storage agreement.

Use the county's storage resources

Executive's official website links hangar spaces, transient tiedown, businesses and services. Distinguish a published leasing opportunity from an approved aircraft-storage commitment. Ask for clearances, shared use, towing, access, insurance and term conditions, and have the flight department verify the current airport and aircraft operating requirements before treating the space as suitable.

Keep annual assessment assumptions visible

The ownership model should show base costs, aircraft reserves and debt service separately, with a dated source for each estimate. If the aircraft regularly moves between jurisdictions, keep actual flight and location records. Address Sacramento County aircraft reporting through the assessor or tax adviser; the airport's role within a county system does not establish an acquisition-tax exemption or automatic allocation.

Build a base-comparison worksheet

Use SAC, MHR and MCC columns for actual capital-region destinations, private-aircraft entrance, available storage, aircraft-specific support, fees and annual positioning. Keep financing, aircraft reserves and expected hours identical. Ask whether each quoted space is existing, conditional or subject to a separate process, and obtain an alternative if delivery precedes availability. Record the current operating review instead of ranking airports by their general-aviation, cargo or business-park labels. The result should show a complete ownership scenario for the actual passengers, including less convenient departure windows and maintenance visits.

Confirm the local reporting and contract roles

Ask Sacramento County airport administration about Executive storage and policy questions, and the county assessment staff or adviser about actual aircraft reporting. McClellan's private airport ownership should be documented separately when it is an alternative. Keep SAC distinct from SMF, MHR and MCC on every proposal. A county-system webpage or a convenient capital-region address is not a substitute for the owner-specific basing record or the California delivery-tax analysis.

Compare your basing alternatives

Use this worksheet to request like-for-like evidence for the actual aircraft and recurring trips. Blank or unconfirmed items remain decisions to investigate, not implied airport capabilities.

Your next-step checklist

  • Are all proposals for SAC rather than SMF, MHR or MCC?
  • Is the listed storage opportunity an actual aircraft offer?
  • What changes in an equivalent Mather or McClellan budget?
