The people behind the base

FBOs & aviation businesses

Start with the providers’ published locations and the airport’s business directory. Compare written proposals for the exact aircraft and services you need.

The directory is informational. Categories describe published services; no ranking, service guarantee, FAA certificate determination or endorsement is implied. Ask each provider about current capability, availability and contract terms.

The decision in focus

Evaluate Mather Airport as a home base or recurring destination for the actual aircraft, passengers and schedule.

Separate airport role from the private-aircraft proposal

Sacramento County describes Mather as the system's cargo-focused airport. The airport FAQ also identifies general-aviation service locations. Use those resources to ask who will handle the proposed aircraft and where passengers and crew enter. A cargo role alone does not establish either a disadvantage or a guarantee of convenient private service.

Compare eastern Sacramento access

For trips serving the eastern capital region, compare Mather with Executive and McClellan using actual destinations and appointment times. Include the aircraft's maintenance support and crew base. Do not compare Mather's private-aviation transfer with an airline passenger's trip to Sacramento International; those are different services and do not answer the ownership question.

Review fees, access and schedule together

Ask the provider for current parking, handling, fuel, towing, storage and after-hours arrangements, along with any airport charges outside its quote. Have the flight department verify applicable rules, notices and the exact aircraft mission. Obtain the passenger access route and contingency arrangements if normal access or services change.

Build a comparable ownership scenario

Hold aircraft price, financing, utilization and reserves constant when comparing the Sacramento airports. Change base-specific costs and repositioning so the result shows the airport decision clearly. Retain storage agreements and actual use records for the Sacramento County assessment discussion, and address California delivery and tax treatment through a separate qualified review.

Build a base-comparison worksheet

Build an MHR/SAC/MCC worksheet with the same aircraft, annual hours and financing, then compare actual eastern Sacramento destinations, storage, handling, fees, passenger access and maintenance positioning. Ask where the aircraft will be served and which provider controls each service, rather than infer the arrangement from Mather's cargo role. Include a column for support outside normal provider staffing and obtain current terms for date changes. Distinguish airport descriptions, actual signed offers and professional operating conclusions. If a line remains unquoted or a condition remains pending, show it explicitly instead of supplying an assumed favorable number.

Confirm the local reporting and contract roles

Use Sacramento County's airports team for Mather's administrative requirements and the actual provider for commercial terms. Separately ask the assessor or owner's adviser how the planned base and any recurring out-of-county storage should be documented. A cargo-focused airport description does not establish a different aircraft property-tax category for a privately used jet. Keep the owner's intended operation, legal entity, records and contract responsibilities clear before signing or changing the aircraft's base.

Compare your basing alternatives

Use this worksheet to request like-for-like evidence for the actual aircraft and recurring trips. Blank or unconfirmed items remain decisions to investigate, not implied airport capabilities.

Your next-step checklist

  • Where is the actual private-aviation service location?
  • Which airport charges are excluded from the quote?
  • How does an equivalent SAC or MCC scenario change total cost?
