The decision in focus

Compare written financing terms and verify which disclosures apply to the actual transaction. A website payment estimate is not a substitute for a lender offer or required disclosure.

Separate calculator estimates from offers

A payment calculated from your assumptions is a planning scenario, not a lender commitment. A specific financing offer has actual parties, terms and conditions. Request written documentation identifying amount financed, payments, fees, maturity and other applicable cost information. Keep preliminary discussions separate from signed approval and final documents so the borrower understands which terms remain subject to review.

Have counsel determine applicability

California has rules addressing commercial financing disclosures with definitions, thresholds, exclusions and procedures. Do not assume every jet loan is covered or exempt based on a marketing label or general aircraft price. Applicable treatment can depend on the financing amount, purpose, provider and transaction structure. Have counsel confirm the currently operative disclosure requirements, thresholds, exceptions and transition provisions for the actual offer.

Compare economic terms consistently

Even where a statutory disclosure question remains under review, the customer can request clear cash-flow information. Compare the same principal, holding period, payment dates, fees, amortization and balloon treatment. Ask about prepayment, personal guarantees, covenants and permitted use. A lower payment can result from a longer amortization or larger balloon rather than a lower total cost. Do not label an internal comparison metric regulatory APR without a validated applicable method.

Track new law by effective date

The Governor announced signing AB2116 in September2026. That confirms enactment but does not by itself establish every operative date or obligation. Keep existing requirements and future changes distinct. Before publishing provider-role or licensing statements, have qualified counsel verify chaptered text, current regulations and any transition rules. Maintain a dated review note rather than copying an old checklist into a permanent financing page.

A practical planning exercise

Practical offer matrix: show principal, all fees, scheduled payments, maturity balance and total cash paid through the chosen horizon. Add a separate row for required disclosures verified by the provider or counsel; the calculator does not certify compliance.

Your next-step checklist

  • Obtain the written offer.
  • Verify disclosure applicability.
  • Compare identical horizons.
  • Review current and future law separately.
