The decision in focus

Choose a home base or recurring visitor agreement that fits the aircraft and actual coastal destinations.

Specify the real mission

List the owner's recurring ground destinations, flight frequency, overnight pattern and maintenance needs. A locally based aircraft and an aircraft visiting from the Bay Area or Los Angeles create different costs. Compare SBP, MRY and SBA only where each genuinely serves the mission; do not assume the entire Central Coast is one ground market or publish a universal transfer-time claim.

Check provider scope and insurance

San Luis Obispo publishes rules and non-commercial general-aviation insurance resources, while Monterey's district publishes a service directory. Use them to ask specific questions about the storage agreement, provider authorization and model-specific support. Confirm which costs and insurance conditions apply to the owner's exact arrangement. A policy satisfying a lender's requirement still needs review against the actual airport and lease obligations.

Model recurring visits separately

For a permanent base, obtain term, clearances, access, towing and renewal language. For visits, obtain parking, handling, reservation and cancellation conditions for the intended dates. Add any aircraft repositioning. Keep county assessment records tied to actual location and use, and have a tax adviser address delivery and California acquisition treatment before closing rather than inferring it from the coastal itinerary.

Your next-step checklist

  • Distinguish permanent basing from visits.
  • Identify model-specific maintenance gaps.
  • Reconcile insurance with lease requirements.
  • Keep county and acquisition-tax questions separate.
