Which engine-related obligations remain with the buyer?
Identify the exact agreement
Obtain the current contract, engine serial numbers, coverage level, billing history and program-provider confirmation. Manufacturer pages describe available programs, but eligibility and coverage can vary by engine and agreement. Do not apply one provider or program description to every jet. A seller listing saying engines on program is the start of a document request, not proof that all expected maintenance expenses are paid.
Compare coverage and exclusions
Have the technical adviser explain scheduled events, unscheduled work, removal, installation, transport, rental support and any excluded damage. Identify deductibles, minimums, escalation and eligibility conditions where they exist. Some coverage levels differ substantially even within one manufacturer program. A budget should use actual quoted charges and retain an explicit allowance for items outside coverage rather than treating the hourly rate as the entire engine cost.
Verify transfer and catch-up costs
Ask the provider what must happen at sale: consent, inspection, record delivery, outstanding payments or other conditions. Do not assume a transferable program moves automatically without process. Assign any agreed payment responsibility in the purchase documents. Confirm the effective coverage date so the buyer does not unknowingly rely on an expired or uncompleted transfer during the period immediately following closing.
Avoid reserving twice
The ownership model needs a clear distinction between program payments and self-funded event reserves. If a cost is covered and funded through the program, do not add the full event reserve again without explanation. Retain reserves for excluded work and uncertainty. Program marketing about enhanced value is not a guaranteed resale premium; compare actual aircraft condition, contract status and market evidence.
Your next-step checklist
- Obtain provider confirmation.
- Review actual coverage.
- Price transfer obligations.
- Reconcile program and reserves.
