FBOs & aviation businesses
Start with the providers’ published locations and the airport’s business directory. Compare written proposals for the exact aircraft and services you need.
Clay Lacy Aviation
7435 Valjean Avenue, Van Nuys, CA 91406
818-989-2900FBO location confirmed by company and airport directory. Company says its management and charter divisions were acquired by Solairus; this entry describes the FBO, not those former divisions.
Jet Aviation Van Nuys
16644 Roscoe Boulevard, Van Nuys, CA
818-722-5103Current company locations list confirms Van Nuys FBO; address also appears in the airport directory. Airport directory phone differs, so current company phone is used.
Signature Aviation Van Nuys – North
7415 Hayvenhurst Place, Van Nuys, CA 91406
818-988-8385Current Signature North location at the address listed as Castle & Cooke in the airport directory; not counted again under the former brand. Signature announced the Castle & Cooke acquisition on September 15, 2026: https://www.signatureaviation.com/news/signature-aviation-expands-operations-at-van-nuys-airport-with-acuisition-of-castle-cooke
Signature Aviation Van Nuys – East
7155 Valjean Avenue, Van Nuys, CA 91406

818-464-9500Current company location aligns with the airport directory Signature entry. Distinct terminal, not a separate company.
The Park VNY (Propeller Park)
818-902-2123Airport operator overview lists The Propeller Park. Current company site describes a community specifically for propeller-aircraft operators; this is not represented as a full-service jet FBO. Source: https://www.iflyvny.com/pilot-information/about-van-nuys-airport
The directory is informational. Categories describe published services; no ranking, service guarantee, FAA certificate determination or endorsement is implied. Ask each provider about current capability, availability and contract terms.
Evaluate Van Nuys Airport as a home base or recurring destination for the actual aircraft, passengers and schedule.
Match the base to the recurring trip
Treat Van Nuys as a long-term operating choice rather than a luxury arrival backdrop. Build a sample month of passenger origins, meeting locations, overnight parking and repositioning trips. Compare that month with Burbank, Hawthorne and Long Beach before deciding which airport supports the actual household or business. Do not assume the airport with the most familiar private-aviation name creates the lowest total ownership cost.
Separate mandatory rules from good-neighbor commitments
The airport publishes a Noise Abatement and Curfew Ordinance as well as voluntary programs. Quieter Nights asks jet operators to avoid flights between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. whenever possible; the airport explicitly says this is separate from its mandatory nighttime restrictions. Have the proposed operator review the applicable ordinance, aircraft noise certification and current notices. A broad statement that every jet faces an identical curfew would lose this important distinction.
Obtain a base-specific ownership budget
Ask each prospective provider for a written proposal covering the exact aircraft, hangar configuration, towing, parking, fuel terms, passenger access, after-hours service and maintenance coordination. Identify which charges are monthly and which depend on movements or fuel purchases. Carry those line items into an annual ownership model, alongside financing and separately confirmed aircraft property-tax obligations.
Make the closing plan match the base
A purchase closing, delivery point and California operating base are different decisions. Coordinate them with escrow, the lender, the operator and an aviation tax adviser before committing to a delivery itinerary. Keep Los Angeles County assessment correspondence and actual basing records together; a financing review cannot determine tax treatment merely from a proposed Van Nuys hangar address.
Build a base-comparison worksheet
Build a VNY-versus-BUR worksheet with separate rows for the actual passenger entrance, a representative San Fernando Valley trip, a recurring Glendale or Pasadena trip, signed storage, expected positioning and after-hours arrangements. Use current provider evidence in each column and leave unquoted amounts blank. Add a third column for the owner's priority rather than declare a universal winner. Record which trips conflict with the voluntary Quieter Nights request and how the proposed operator plans to address them. Keep the exact aircraft and financing identical in both scenarios so the comparison measures the base decision.
Confirm the local reporting and contract roles
Ask Los Angeles County which reporting records it needs for this aircraft's actual basing pattern, especially if the aircraft also spends extended periods at another county or state. LAWA's airport role, a provider's lease and the assessor's aircraft treatment answer different questions. Retain who issued each document and its period. Ask the provider which airport or access charges sit outside its proposal; do not assume one invoice includes every local obligation.
Compare your basing alternatives
Use this worksheet to request like-for-like evidence for the actual aircraft and recurring trips. Blank or unconfirmed items remain decisions to investigate, not implied airport capabilities.
| Decision variable | VNY evidence | Alternative evidence | Owner priority / unresolved question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Actual passenger ground itinerary | Obtain current route estimate | Use the same dates and destinations | No fixed transfer-time promise |
| Storage rights and availability | Signed offer, conditional offer or inquiry | Record the same evidence category | Do not price unavailable space as confirmed |
| Airport and provider charges | Request itemized current proposal | Match aircraft and annual activity | Identify excluded or unquoted items |
| Operating and noise review | Current source and qualified operator review | Use each airport's own rules | Distinguish mandatory and voluntary only when verified |
| Assessment and records | Ask the appropriate assessor or adviser | Document actual changed basing facts | No automatic situs or exemption conclusion |
Your next-step checklist
- Which mandatory restrictions apply to this aircraft?
- How will the operator observe voluntary nighttime requests?
- Is the proposed space exclusive or shared, and what access fees apply?
