The people behind the base

FBOs & aviation businesses

Start with the providers’ published locations and the airport’s business directory. Compare written proposals for the exact aircraft and services you need.

The directory is informational. Categories describe published services; no ranking, service guarantee, FAA certificate determination or endorsement is implied. Ask each provider about current capability, availability and contract terms.

The decision in focus

Evaluate Ontario International Airport as a home base or recurring destination for the actual aircraft, passengers and schedule.

Use the Inland Empire mission

Ontario's operator provides a dedicated general-aviation resource and describes private-aircraft services. For a business whose destinations cluster around the Inland Empire, evaluate where passengers actually start and finish rather than automatically selecting a coastal Los Angeles base. A useful comparison includes Ontario and Chino, expected departure times, ground transport and the location of maintenance support.

Read marketing statements with operating rules

The airport's general-aviation page advertises around-the-clock access and a service offering. Its separate rules-and-regulations resource governs airport use. The owner should obtain current operational confirmation from the flight department and service provider; a marketing phrase does not override notices, aircraft limitations or service arrangements. Keep the operational review distinct from a promise that every requested schedule will be available.

Understand the provider's actual proposal

Request the aircraft-specific hangar or parking proposal, contract duration, access arrangements, handling fees, minimum purchases and after-hours requirements. Confirm which quoted items are airport charges and which are provider charges. Compare a full year of expected activity rather than a single fuel purchase or one transient visit.

Integrate cash planning and basing records

An acquisition budget should include debt service, storage, operating expenses and the cash needed to bring the aircraft into the intended service arrangement. If delivery occurs elsewhere, obtain advice about the California transaction and documentation before the itinerary is fixed. Keep San Bernardino County assessment questions separate from sales/use-tax assumptions and from any claimed savings in a provider quote.

Build a base-comparison worksheet

Construct an ONT-versus-CNO worksheet that holds aircraft price, loan, annual hours and maintenance reserve assumptions constant. Change only verified storage, handling, fuel arrangements, airport charges, owner transport and aircraft positioning. Include the actual Inland Empire facilities the owner visits, plus recurring coastal trips if those are material. Ask whether the provider quote requires fuel purchases or advance arrangements and whether the quoted service can be maintained during the owner's least convenient departure window. A broad around-the-clock airport description should not be scored as confirmed staffed service for every requested task.

Confirm the local reporting and contract roles

Distinguish Ontario International Airport Authority rules, private provider terms and San Bernardino County aircraft assessment. Ask which airport charges the provider collects, which may be billed separately and which records the assessor needs for the actual base. A buyer should retain the proposed delivery location separately from the Ontario storage agreement. If actual use later differs from the plan, ask the adviser how to update the records and reporting rather than keep the original assumption.

Compare your basing alternatives

Use this worksheet to request like-for-like evidence for the actual aircraft and recurring trips. Blank or unconfirmed items remain decisions to investigate, not implied airport capabilities.

Your next-step checklist

  • Which fees come from the airport and which from the service provider?
  • What access or minimum purchase conditions accompany the quote?
  • How does a year of expected trips compare with CNO?
