FBOs & aviation businesses
Start with the providers’ published locations and the airport’s business directory. Compare written proposals for the exact aircraft and services you need.
Atlantic Aviation – Thermal
760-399-4300County directory lists north and south Atlantic service locations. This single company entry does not imply the two locations are different companies.
Desert Jet Center
760-925-5876Listed by Riverside County as a TRM FBO and service provider.
Thermal Aviation
760-399-5961County directory lists self-service fuel and hangar services; confirm fuel type and aircraft scope directly.
The directory is informational. Categories describe published services; no ranking, service guarantee, FAA certificate determination or endorsement is implied. Ask each provider about current capability, availability and contract terms.
Evaluate Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport as a home base or recurring destination for the actual aircraft, passengers and schedule.
Compare eastern-valley access
The county places TRM near Coachella, Indio and La Quinta and provides a directory of airport businesses. Use those locations as a starting point for a real trip comparison with Palm Springs and Bermuda Dunes. An airport described as a gateway to the region is not necessarily the best base for every residence or business. Compare representative ground routes and aircraft repositioning costs before selecting it.
Request storage from the correct counterparty
Riverside County's airport page says it has no county hangars at this airport and directs renters to the listed providers. Ask the specific provider for dimensions, shared-space arrangements, term, escalation, towing and access conditions. A county airport page or development announcement is not a reservation. Obtain a written proposal and confirm whether the proposed space is immediately usable.
Recheck infrastructure status rather than forecasting it
A June 2025 county board document described an air-traffic-control-tower project and stated that TRM was not then equipped with a tower. Project approval does not establish an operating date or today's tower status. Flight crews must obtain current official information and notices. Ownership content should identify this as a verification question rather than promise future capacity or procedures.
Model the desert ownership pattern
Separate annual base costs from seasonal visits and special-event service requirements. Have the operating team evaluate the exact aircraft for the intended mission and conditions. Maintain location and use records if the aircraft moves between California and another state, and discuss property assessment with Riverside County separately from acquisition sales/use-tax questions. A Thermal base does not itself establish an exclusion.
Build a base-comparison worksheet
Use a TRM-versus-PSP-versus-UDD worksheet with eastern-valley ground destinations, actual provider offers, storage terms, event dates and annual positioning. Include a row naming the storage counterparty because the county states that no county hangars are offered at TRM. Add a current-infrastructure verification row for the tower project; do not score an approved proposal as an operating improvement already delivered. Ask the operator how present notices affect the intended mission and ask providers for dated availability. Maintain known costs, illustrative inputs and unresolved quotes as separate entries.
Confirm the local reporting and contract roles
Direct storage questions to the actual provider and administrative questions to Riverside County's aviation team, then obtain separate aircraft assessment advice. Ask what address and records should be used when a jet is seasonally stored at Thermal but regularly based elsewhere. Retain the owner entity and aircraft identifiers consistently across the contracts and tax evidence. County airport ownership and a private hangar agreement should not be represented as an automatic assessment allocation or exemption.
Compare your basing alternatives
Use this worksheet to request like-for-like evidence for the actual aircraft and recurring trips. Blank or unconfirmed items remain decisions to investigate, not implied airport capabilities.
| Decision variable | TRM evidence | Alternative evidence | Owner priority / unresolved question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Actual passenger ground itinerary | Obtain current route estimate | Use the same dates and destinations | No fixed transfer-time promise |
| Storage rights and availability | Signed offer, conditional offer or inquiry | Record the same evidence category | Do not price unavailable space as confirmed |
| Airport and provider charges | Request itemized current proposal | Match aircraft and annual activity | Identify excluded or unquoted items |
| Operating and noise review | Current source and qualified operator review | Use each airport's own rules | Distinguish mandatory and voluntary only when verified |
| Assessment and records | Ask the appropriate assessor or adviser | Document actual changed basing facts | No automatic situs or exemption conclusion |
Your next-step checklist
- Which provider has offered the actual storage space?
- What is today's official tower and construction status?
- What changes in the contract during major-event periods?
