The people behind the base

FBOs & aviation businesses

Start with the providers’ published locations and the airport’s business directory. Compare written proposals for the exact aircraft and services you need.

The directory is informational. Categories describe published services; no ranking, service guarantee, FAA certificate determination or endorsement is implied. Ask each provider about current capability, availability and contract terms.

The decision in focus

Evaluate Camarillo Airport as a home base or recurring destination for the actual aircraft, passengers and schedule.

Understand the county airport relationship

Ventura County's Department of Airports identifies Camarillo and Oxnard as its two managed airports and provides a pathway for storage and aviation-business inquiries. Keep county administration separate from the private provider that may quote hangar or aircraft services. Ask which party controls the proposed space and whether county approval is required for the arrangement or intended activity.

Compare the Ventura County use case

Camarillo can be evaluated for passengers whose recurring destinations are in Ventura County or along the adjacent coastal corridor. Compare a month of real trips with Van Nuys and Santa Barbara, including ground transport, aircraft positioning and maintenance. A more convenient base for one passenger's home may be a poor choice for the crew or another frequent traveler; resolve that explicitly before acquisition.

Investigate storage beyond advertised dimensions

For each proposed space, request door clearance, usable internal dimensions, shared-aircraft arrangements, towing, power, security, insurance and access conditions. Ask about lease duration, escalation and subletting or assignment if the aircraft changes. The existence of aviation development sites is not evidence of immediate hangar availability for a specific jet.

Keep planning evidence current

Reconfirm the airport's current county rules, noise materials, notices and service information directly before committing to the arrangement. Have the operator validate the aircraft and mission from authoritative operational resources. Retain Ventura County basing and assessment records separately from the purchase delivery plan and the lender's financial assumptions.

Build a base-comparison worksheet

Build a CMA-versus-SBA-versus-VNY worksheet using the actual Ventura County and coastal destinations, available storage, owner and crew access, required outside support and annual positioning. Ask whether the proposed space is existing, conditional or part of a development opportunity. Record the controlling counterparty and any county approval before treating a rental rate as usable. Include the service term and termination provisions in the comparison, not only monthly rent. Obtain the county's current rules and confirm provider arrangements before assigning a final score or committing to the proposed space.

Confirm the local reporting and contract roles

Confirm the Ventura County airport-administration role and private provider rights separately. Ask the county assessor or aircraft tax adviser which basing records and owner identity evidence are needed for the actual plan. A city location, county airport ownership and a service-provider mailing address can all appear in the file without answering the same question. Retain the applicable current document for each role rather than copy another Ventura County airport's terms onto Camarillo.

Compare your basing alternatives

Use this worksheet to request like-for-like evidence for the actual aircraft and recurring trips. Blank or unconfirmed items remain decisions to investigate, not implied airport capabilities.

Your next-step checklist

  • Does the county or a private provider control the proposed space?
  • What approvals and assignment rights accompany the lease?
  • What is the full trip comparison with VNY and SBA?
