The decision in focus

Work backward from a realistic delivery date and identify dependencies on both sides. A fast borrower decision cannot compress every technical, title, insurance and aircraft-acceptance task into the final day.

Create the shared milestone list

Record agreement, deposit, records delivery, inspection, findings, acceptance, valuation, lender conditions, title, insurance, funding and possession. Assign each to a responsible person and an expected date. Make prerequisites explicit. A document-delivery target and a condition-satisfied date are different milestones, and a seller should know which one has actually been reached.

Find seller-controlled delays

Request payoff information, title review, corporate authority, program transfers and records before the buyer needs them urgently. If the aircraft remains in use, agree how updated hours, cycles and maintenance will be reported. Do not wait for a lender's final document request to discover a missing release or inconsistent legal name that requires professional resolution.

Manage changes as a team

Inspection findings, legal-party changes, delivery location or price revisions can affect the buyer's financing as well as seller economics. Tell the relevant advisers promptly and update the written schedule. A revised closing date should trigger review of payoff validity, insurance timing, financing expiry, operating arrangements and any fact-specific tax plan.

Budget carrying costs and contingencies

Show seller costs through both the intended close and a delayed case. Include existing debt, hangar, insurance, management and required maintenance as applicable. Ask counsel about contractual notice and extension requirements; a spreadsheet does not alter deadlines. The aim is to understand the cost of time while negotiating a workable and properly documented transaction.

Illustrative seller scenario

Illustrative only: borrower approval arrives as planned, but a program provider needs additional documentation before transfer. If the parties delay closing, update payoff and carrying costs. If considering another arrangement, obtain the lender and advisers' acceptance. Calling the transaction ready simply because credit review is complete conceals the remaining dependency.
