FBOs & aviation businesses
Start with the providers’ published locations and the airport’s business directory. Compare written proposals for the exact aircraft and services you need.

The directory is informational. Categories describe published services; no ranking, service guarantee, FAA certificate determination or endorsement is implied. Ask each provider about current capability, availability and contract terms.
Evaluate Long Beach Airport (Daugherty Field) as a home base or recurring destination for the actual aircraft, passengers and schedule.
Use its southern Los Angeles position
The FAA identifies Long Beach Airport as Daugherty Field in the city of Long Beach. For acquisition planning, the useful question is how this base serves the buyer's actual set of ground destinations. Compare Long Beach with John Wayne and Hawthorne for a month of expected travel, including where crew and maintenance support originate. Avoid assuming that a regional alternative is cheaper without aircraft-specific proposals.
Keep an ownership guide separate from flight planning
The FAA publishes airport-specific pilot information, including the need to understand the airport layout and surrounding airspace. Have the flight crew use current official LGB information and its operational briefing for airport layout, airspace, construction and notices. A change in taxiways, construction or an operational notice must be handled through current flight planning, not an ownership-planning article.
Ask for rules and quotes in writing
Request the airport's current local noise and operating requirements and ask the proposed operator how they affect the planned aircraft and schedule. Do not copy John Wayne's general-aviation ordinance or airline access regime onto Long Beach. Have storage providers specify hangar dimensions, shared-space arrangements, handling, fuel terms and any charges outside ordinary service hours.
Model the base and transaction separately
Include recurring storage and service costs in the ownership comparison, then show debt service as a separate line. If the seller or inspection facility is elsewhere, budget delivery and repositioning explicitly. Discuss aircraft assessment and basing records with Los Angeles County or the buyer's tax adviser. A Long Beach operating plan does not by itself settle California acquisition-tax questions.
Build a base-comparison worksheet
Use an LGB-versus-SNA-versus-HHR worksheet with the actual South Bay, Long Beach and Orange County passenger destinations, each private-aviation entrance, documented storage and a comparable annual service pattern. Include the crew's maintenance and training positioning rather than only owner transport. Ask each provider to identify airport charges excluded from its quote. Add current local-rule review as a pending professional item where not confirmed; an unconfirmed local requirement is not evidence that no restrictions exist. A comparison should show known amounts, quoted amounts and unresolved items in different categories.
Confirm the local reporting and contract roles
For a Long Beach base, ask Los Angeles County or the aircraft tax adviser which actual location and use records are required. The city airport's services, FAA airport information and the county's assessment role should remain distinct in the source file. Clarify who receives invoices and official correspondence if a management company handles operations. Do not use an Orange County airline or property-tax assumption merely because SNA is part of the airport shortlist.
Compare your basing alternatives
Use this worksheet to request like-for-like evidence for the actual aircraft and recurring trips. Blank or unconfirmed items remain decisions to investigate, not implied airport capabilities.
| Decision variable | LGB evidence | Alternative evidence | Owner priority / unresolved question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Actual passenger ground itinerary | Obtain current route estimate | Use the same dates and destinations | No fixed transfer-time promise |
| Storage rights and availability | Signed offer, conditional offer or inquiry | Record the same evidence category | Do not price unavailable space as confirmed |
| Airport and provider charges | Request itemized current proposal | Match aircraft and annual activity | Identify excluded or unquoted items |
| Operating and noise review | Current source and qualified operator review | Use each airport's own rules | Distinguish mandatory and voluntary only when verified |
| Assessment and records | Ask the appropriate assessor or adviser | Document actual changed basing facts | No automatic situs or exemption conclusion |
Your next-step checklist
- Which current local requirements apply to our intended schedule?
- Where is the actual private-aviation passenger entrance?
- What handling and storage charges apply to this aircraft?
